Tamil Nadu State Rural Livelihoods Mission (TNSRLM) would be implemented in 265 blocks in the State in a phased manner over a three-year period, said P.Amudha, Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women.

TNSRLM seeks to adopt a comprehensive approach towards poverty eradication by targeting all members of a family, she said inaugurating a day-long orientation for officials on ‘Reaching Vision 2023’ through TNSRLM, organized by the corporation here on Wednesday.

Creating an institutional platform for development for the poor, community managed sustainable livelihood initiatives, financial inclusion and providing skill training and job placement for youths are among the objectives of the programme. During 2012-13, the project would be implemented in 60 blocks in the State. Hundred blocks are to be covered in 2013-14 in the second phase and 105 during 2014-15 in the third phase.

“The Vision 2023 of the Chief Minister, which outlines measures to eradicate poverty, is the starting point of the programme. We have ranked all the 385 blocks based on certain indicators and TNSRLM would be implemented first in the blocks that are lagging behind,” Ms. Amudha said.

Unlike other schemes, TNSRLM aims at block-level intervention under a broad-based approach. “The targeted beneficiaries are not only women, but all members of the family, including men folk, youths and children to overcome poverty,” she said. Collector Jayashree Muralidharan said TNSRLM was being implemented in Manachanallur, Marungapuri, Thathaiyengarpet and Thottiyam during current year.
